America was made for cruising. With thousands of miles of quality roads to explore, the USA is an auto enthusiast’s dream (well maybe no speed limit on the autobahn rivals it). This massive country spans two oceans and has everything in between. So put on your driving and shoes and check out one of these three amazing American road trips.
This highway runs from New England all the way down to Florida. Some of the best scenery can be spotted along the Maine coastline – think lighthouses, ocean waves and rocky shores. n fact, the 12-mile area between Danforth and Orient, with its views of Peakaboo Mountain and Grand Lake, is described as the “Million Dollar View.”
On the opposite end of Route 1 is the Overseas Highway that leads down into the Florida Keys. Made up of 42 bridges – including the famous Seven Mile Bridge, this trek offers stunning views of the land and sea, plus plenty of places to stop for souvenirs or a cool, umbrella-topped drink.
Blue Ridge Parkway
America’s Favorite Drive – this route will take you along winding roads through the great Appalachian Mountains and breezes by Virginia’s Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park.
Nature lovers will get a real kick out of this road trip. Among the sights to see are Linville Gorge, Whitewater Falls, and Mount Mitchell. Another marvel is Looking Glass Rock in North Carolina, an enormous granite structure reaching a height of nearly 4,000 feet. In the winter, the water freezes and sticks to the rock face, creating a unique reflective surface – hence the name.
Pacific Coast Highway – Route 101
Soak in magnificent sights of the Pacific Ocean on this All-American Road from California to Washington state. The ultimate must-see here is Big Sur, a magical little village offering some of the best scenery in the west, including McWay Falls, the Santa Lucia Mountains and Cone Peak, the highest coastal mountain in the continental U.S.
If looking at the ocean gets boring, there is lots more to see, including Rainbow Canyon, newspaper tycoon William Randolph Hearst’s glorious San Simeon castle on the Cali coast, and Oregon’s Prehistoric Gardens located in South Port Orford.
There you have it, three great American road trips for you to choose from. Now all you need is to gather up some friends, plan your adventure, and secure your ride and all the necessary goodies. If you don’t have a car, don’t sweat it. Finding car hire in the US is easy and can be done in almost every town and city. That means you’ll have no excuse to skip out on a chance to hit the open road. Happy travels!
