There are many different varieties of baby formulas on the market today. You might notice there are many formulas that are made in the USA and also many different brands of formulas made in Europe. Also, there are organic formulas and non-organic formulas to select. It is a very tough decision, and it takes a lot of research to find the one that meets all of your baby’s needs.

Hopefully we can help make your decision process smoother, by sharing what we know about one of our favorite European baby formulas called Lebenswert and what makes it a great formula for your little one.

Lebenswert Organic Baby Formula

Lebenswert organic baby formula was created by the manufacturer of Holle. The word Lebenswert is German and means livable in English.

Lebenswert is BioLand-Certified. BioLand certification means that the formula is made on a sustainable biodynamic farm. The formula is free from pesticides and herbicides. The milk comes from grass fed cows with no added hormones and is also EU Organic certified.

Lebenswert, like most European baby formulas, has stages. Lebenswert Stage 1 is for babies 0 to 6 months. Lebenswert Stage 2 is for babies 6 months to 1 year. Lebenswert Stage 3 is for babies or toddlers 10 months and older.

This formula can be used with breastfeeding or by itself. The organic baby formula has natural properties that make it similar to breastmilk as well.

Lebenswert Stage 2 is filled with essential proteins and calcium to support healthy bones. It contains essential nutrients, such as vitamin A, B, C, D and zinc to help give your baby a healthy body and immune system

Lebenswert does not contain sugars, GMO’s, chemicals, pesticides, or herbicides. They only use 100% natural sources.

Why Choose European Baby Formula over USA Baby Formula?

European baby formula, whether organic or non-organic, has a stricter set of guidelines than baby formula made in the USA. There are several ingredients that are not allowed in EU formulas that US allows formula manufacturers to continue to use. Also what is considered organic and non-organic varies amongst the EU and the USA.

In order to be certified by the EU they have to contain no GMOs, no added hormones or steroids, only used antibiotics to keep animals healthy, and a minimum of 95% of organic ingredients. Cows and goats are fed a 100% organic diet with no synthetic additives, plus no preservatives or synthetics are added to the formula. Every can of formula goes through multiple quality checks for every step of the process.

With American formula, the FDA allows formula manufacturing companies to use chemical processes, fillers, and unnatural preservatives as main ingredients. Not all American organic formula has to be certified by the USDA. The only formulas that are organically certified are the ones labeled certified by the USDA

Lastly, the USA develops their formula in a one size fits all format, where the EU has different stages for each stage of a baby’s development.

Conclusion

Hopefully the information about Lebenswert at least gets you started on your formula decision journey. European formulas are an excellent choice to meet your baby’s needs when breastfeeding is not an option. They are also a great option to help give your baby an extra boost when breastmilk is not enough. Remember, always speak with your pediatrician when making your final decision!
