When in Philly, Do Like Rocky Does!

July 24, 2012

Once again I’ve found myself in the magnificent city of my birth, Philadelphia. I came up to visit both family and friends, satiate my cheese steak craving, and of course do something I have to do every time I visit…run up the art museum steps like Rocky.

Yes, you might think this is a touristy thing to do, but in fact, us Philadelphians do run up the stairs as well. There is nothing more invigorating than waking up early, putting on “Eye of The Tiger” on your ipod, sprinting up the steps, turn around and take in the awe inspiring Philadelphia skyline. It’s awesome.

Yo, Adrian, the Rocky statue was actually briefly at the top of the Art Museum steps for the filming of Rocky III. There was a movement to leave it there, but the trustees of the Art Museum didn’t think it was suitable so it was moved to near the bottom of the steps. There really is a great view of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, one of Philly’s cultural hubs, and Center City beyond from the top of the Art Museum steps. Youse all should come check it out!
