And the time of visit in turn depends upon the weather of that location. That said, in this post, we tell you about the weather in Hong Kong, so that you can book your Hong Kong tour package from Mumbai, Ahmedabad or any other city in India.
The Weather in Hong Kong
Because Hong Kong lies in the subtropics, its climate is warm and temperate. Hong Kong has four distinct seasons – a warm and humid spring a hot and wet summer, a sunny and pleasant autumn, and a dry and cold winter. Your travel plans will determine the best time of the year for you to visit Hong Kong. If you visit Hong Kong in the spring or summer, expect to be greeted by heavy rain which will keep you confined indoors, or in your hotel room for most of your vacation. But spring and summer may be the best time of year for you to visit Hong Kong, because these are when you will have the best shopping experience and views of temples. If you visit Hong Kong in the winter time, expect dry conditions and moderately cold temperatures during your stay. These climatic and weather conditions are perfect if you want to spend a lot of time outdoors exploring the beauty of nature in Hong Kong. if you plan on visiting Hong Kong during the autumn months, be prepared to spend a lot of time outdoors witnessing amazing festivals which reflect Hong Kong’s history, culture, and religion!
Springtime in Hong Kong
Spring is the time when the heat, humidity, and heavy rains which characterize summers in Hong Kong begin. The spring season has traditionally run from March to May when temperatures begin at 19 degrees Celsius in the morning and climb as high as 24 degree Celsius during the day. Springtime will give you many clear days, but expect and watch out for very unpredictable weather. You should be especially mindful of fast approaching storms. The quickly developing storms are the main reason why you should always be mindful of the weather when vacationing in Hong Kong. You need to be especially mindful of black rainstorm warnings because they tend to make any kind of outdoor activity impossible. The weather may not be perfect in Hong Kong during spring, but you can still experience the best of Hong Kong’s history and culture by attending art exhibitions, shows, and other events. They are explained further in the events section.
Summer in Hong Kong
If you visit Hong Kong in the summer (months spanning from June to August), you should expect warm evenings with an average temperature of 25 degrees Celsius, and extremely hot days (approximately 30 degrees Celsius). The high levels of humidity and threat of frequent rain showers, thunderstorms, and typhoons make the weather unpredictable and can make it unpleasant at times. This is the season for light clothing and powerful sunscreen/sunblock. You carry an umbrella with you at all times if you want to venture outdoors. Since you will be spending most of your time indoors, this is the perfect season for shopping, dining out and enjoying Hong Kong’s Nightlife. Some notable dishes to try are dim sum, lo mai gai, and char siu.
Autumn in Hong Kong
If you want really great weather, come to Hong Kong during the autumn months (September to mid-December). This is the time when Hong Kong’s weather is at its best! Humidity is very low during the autumn months and temperatures range from 21 degrees Celsius at night to 27 degrees Celsius during the day. Expect very light and low levels of rain. If you are an outdoors person, autumn is the best time to visit Hong Kong. You can explore Hong Kong’s scenic hiking trails, many of which are in the New Territories. You can also visit Hong Kong’s beautiful islands which include the Lamma island, Peng Chau, and Grass Island.
Wintertime in Hong Kong
Wintertime in Hong Kong runs from mid-December to February and it is another great time to visit Hong Kong because this is the most comfortable time of year in terms of weather and temperature. Temperatures are at their mildest – the minimum temperature is at 13 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature runs at 19 degrees Celsius. It also doesn’t rain much during wintertime. You want to wear light clothing, even if the natives layer clothing on.
